Vikram Profile

Vikram is an Indian film actor, voice actor and a playback singer. Famous Tamil and Telugu actor Vikram was born on 17th April 1965 in Paramakudi, Tamil Nadu. His real name is John Kennedy and is affectionately called as Kenny by his friends. He did his graduation in English from Loyola College, Chennai, and did an M.B.A.

Vikram did his schooling in Mount Fort School, Yercaud. From his school days itself he made acting as his passion. This passion made him a versatile actor which he after a great struggle with films. His father is also a film actor and his mother is a retired sub-collector. Vikram and his father starred together for the first time in the movie Kanthaswamy.

Vikram started his career through film En Kadhal Kanmani in Tamil. He then acted in few Malayalam movies in supporting roles. Later he was starred in the Amitabh Bachan-produced Tamil film Ullasam alongside Ajith Kumar. But Vikram could not taste success.

Vikram got break through movie Sethu directed by director Bala which turned out a huge blockbuster, in which his acting won him critical acclaims. After acting in few films which did make much impact for his career, movie Dhill directed by his friend S. Dharani did well commercially. Then Vikram started with the Malayalam-remake Kasi, for which he won the Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award and the film was box office hit. This followed his filmy career with a string of movies, such as Gemini produced by AVM Productions, Samurai, King, Dhool, and many more.

Not only skilled in handling his roles, Vikram is an adept in handling his fame as well from not creeping into his personality to mar his down to earth nature. His simplicity finds expression in his love for children, his favourite food, Pazaya saadham (porridge) and karuvaattu kuzumbu (dried fish) and his liking to fit himself into a dirty pair of jeans, T shirt and Hawaii slippers.

His performance is capable of drawing a person not interested in watching films to the portals of the theatre. A Tamil movie watcher can always expect something different in the story as well as a different Vikram in all his movies. His yet to release movie ‘Bheema’ is sure to satisfy the above criterion and all his yet to be made commitments as well.

Vikram’s initial movies did not produce him to the world as a successful star. It was a long and tiresome wait. But this did not deter him from pursuing his passion for movies. He got himself equipped for his chosen career by attending dance classes and opting to act out different characters amidst a small group of friends.

Vikram in film Anniyan directed by S. Shankar was the most expensive film which featured him as a character suffering from dissociative identity disorder with three distinct personae: a meek lawyer, a suave fashion model, and a psychotic serial killer. The film was both a critical and commercial success and earned him several awards. Vikram got married to Shyla ,in 1992 from Kannur, Kerala, a psychology teacher. The couple have two children, a daughter Akshita and a son  Dhruv.

Mani Ratnam starred Vikram in bilingual feature film opposite Aishwarya Rai-Raavanan in Tamil and Raavan in Hindi, simulltaneously The film was flop but Vikram’s acting was lauded, hence the Tamil version received a better response than the Hindi version.
