Vijaya Nirmala, a renowned actress and a director, directed as many as 42 feature films. The lady made it to the Guinness Book of World Records as the most prolific director (female).

As an actress, Vijaya Nirmala entered the industry at the young age of seven as a child artisteacting in ‘Panduranga Mahatyam.’ ‘Rangula Raatnam’ was her debut as heroine. She acted in films like ‘Manchi Kutumbam,’ ‘Bangaru Gajulu,’ ‘Manchi Mitrulu,’ ‘Rangula Ratnam,’ ‘Prema Kanuka,’ ‘Thalibottu,’ ‘Marina Manishi’ and ‘Amma Kosam.’ Vijaya Nirmala debuted as a Telugu director with ‘Meena’.

Her debut film in Tamil was Engaveettu Penn, which was followed by movies including Panama Paasama, En Annan, Gnanaoli, and Uyira Maanama.

Other films that released under her direction include ‘Rakthasambandham,’ ‘Devadasu,’ ‘Devude Gelichadu,’ ‘Ajatha Shathruvu’ and ‘Putinti Gowravam.’

Vijaya Nirmala has also produced films like ‘Yes Nenante Nene’ and ‘Mogudu Pellala Dongata,’ under the banner of Vijaya Krishna Movies.

Actor Naresh is her son from the first marriage. In 1969, she got married to Superstar Krishna. Vijaya Nirmala met her second husband Krishna on the sets of Saakshi (1967), her second film in Telugu, and they starred together in 47 films.Vijaya Nirmala has acted in over 200 films with 25 each in Malayalam and Tamil, and the remaining in Telugu.

Vijaya Nirmala launched her own banner Vijaya Krishna Movies and produced 15 films. Her small screen debut came with Balaji Telefilms Pelli Kanuka.

Vijaya Nirmala made her directorial debut in Telugu with Meena and directed 40 films in Telugu and one film each in Malayalam (directorial debut film) and Tamil (Kungumachimizh).

Currently the actress-director is based in Hyderabad and is managing Padmalaya Studios and Padmalaya Telefilms Ltd.
