Silk Smitha is a South Indian hottest and sexy actress born on 2, Dec, 1960 as Vijayalakshimi in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, India. Silk Smitha went on to star in over 200 Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and a few Hindi films.

Though Smitha appeared in some character roles, she became popular through her glamourous appearances in softcore films.

Smitha left school after her fourth standard due to poor financial circumstances; she accidentally became a film star. Moving with her aunt to Madras (the then center of the South Indian film industry), she was discovered by an Indian director who renamed her Smitha. After garnering much notice and acclaim with her first major role, in the Tamil movie Vandi Chakkaram (The Wheel), in 1979, Smitha assumed the name “Silk,” after her character’s name in the movie.[3] He wrote in Deccan Chronical Newspaper that he saw her first time at a flour mill. After that his wife taught her English, she learned dancing from another teacher.

In 1996, Smitha was found dead in her Chennai apartment. The previous year she had tried to shift her career to become a film producer. Financial problems, disillusionment in love and an alcohol dependency apparently led to a depression, it is suspected that Smitha committed suicide.
