‘Mallemala’ Sundararami Reddy known as M S. Reddy  Popular and senior producer and Sahaja Kavi , born on August 15, 1924, near Nellore, was the first producer of Telugu cinema.

M S. Reddy started his career as a producer in 1966 with a dubbing film “Kannepilla”. He was a good artist as well as a photographer. He first started his photo studio in Chennai and also was interested in moving pictures. He was the first person to start a theatre in Chennai. Slowly he started producing movies in his own studio under his own banner.

M S. Reddy  is a born poet, he has penned more than 5,000 lyrics responding to the situations and events with great clarity. “Sahaja Kavi” as he is known for his lyrical simplicity in penning poems. M S. Reddy being one of the living legends of Telugu Cinema, he started off his career with films as a poet. His poems in the film ‘Ekalavya’ redefined the way Telugu language looked at itself. His lyrics were stupendous.

He played a vital role in the shifting of the Telugu film industry from Chennai to Hyderabad. M S. Reddy has produced 25 films, including a mega production `Ramayanam’ with 3,000 child artistes, which bagged Best Children’s Film Award.

M S. Reddy was honoured with the prestigious Raghupathi Venkaiah Award for 2005 for his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Telugu cinema.

M S. Reddy ‘s acting in ‘Ankusham’ brought out a dynamism a Chief Minister’s role demanded, something never before done in Telugu Cinema.

He was conferred with the title `Abhinava Vemana’ by Prakasam District Writers Association in 2002. M S. Reddy was elected as president to the Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce.

M S. Reddy has served the film industry in various capacities– president of Telugu Film Producers Council, South Indian Film Writers Association, Film Nagar Cooperative Housing Society and chairman of AP Film Development Corporation. He led several protest marches against social injustices.

M.S. Reddy’s son Shyam Prasad Reddy also turned producer and made movies like ‘Ankusham’, ‘Aagraham’, ‘Ammoru’, ‘Arundhati’ to name a few.

M.S. Reddy has lived like many of us can only dream of. He’s had lows, highs and then cast a dice to throw almost everything away and then win it back all over again. He likes to be the simple man he always has been.
