Producer DVS Raju Profile
DVS. Raju was born on December 13th, 1928 in Allavaram, East Godavari district, Raju landed in Madras in 1950 following his passion of working in the film industry. Mr. DVS Raju was among those who played a vital role in shifting of the Telugu film industry from Madras to Hyderabad when N.T. Rama Rao was Chief Minister.
DVS. Raju produced several blockbuster movies like ‘Mangamma Sapadham’, ‘Dhanama-Daivama’,'Tikka Sankaraiah’ and ‘Gandikota Rahasyam’ with the then leading hero and legend N T Rama Rao and produced many other hit films with top heroes like Sobhanbabu and Chiranjeevi.
In all, DVS. Raju produced 25 films in Telugu, some of which like ‘Jeevana Jyothi’ won the best feature film award from the state government and also the coveted Filmfare.
DVS. Raju was conferred the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Raghupati Venkaiah Award in 1988 for lifetime achievement.
Many of his films enjoyed 100 days’ screening, including ‘Mangamma Sapadham’, Pidigu Ramudu’, ‘Thikka Sankarayya’, ‘Dhanamaa Daivamaa’, ‘Chanakya Sapadham’ and ‘Jeevana Jyothi’ that bagged a Golden Nandi.
DVS. Raju produced ‘Mujhe Insaaf Chaahiye’ in Hindi, starring Rekha, Rati Agnihotri and Mithun Chakraborty.
As NFDC Chairman, DVS. Raju was instrumental in co-funding the making of Richard Attenborough’s Oscar-award winning film ‘Gandhi.’
DVS. Raju , a father-figure to many in the Telugu film industry, he also served as Chairman of National Film Development Corporation and Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce.
DVS. Raju also received the prestigious Raghupathi Venkaiah award from the AP government. NT Rama Rao, who acted in six of Raju’s films, presented the award to him as Chief Minister in 1988.

Dasari Narayana Rao, hero Nandamuri Balakrishna, producer Allu Aravind, writer C Narayana Reddy and many other film and political personalities visited Raju’s residence at Film Nagar here and paid homage to the departed soul.
