South Indian actor and supporting actor Prakash Raj born as Prakash Rai on March 26, 1965 to a Tulu speaking Bunt family in Puttur ,Karnataka .He studied at St. Joseph’s Indian High School in Bangalore, and did  his college at St. Josephs College of commerce, Brigade road, Bangalore. During his school days Prakash Raj won the Scout award, and in college days participated in many plays, this made his entry into acting in films.

Before Prakash Raj entered into films he acted in Kannada Doordarshan serials like Bisilu Kudure and Guddada Bhootha, later acted small supporting roles in Kannada films like Lockup Death , Raamachari, Nishkarsha and many other films.

But film Harakeya Kuri starring Vishnuvardhan directed by K S L Swamy gave Prakash Raj a big break in films, Director K. Balachander a Tamil film director noticed his acting skills and made Prakash Raj re-enter into Kannada films with Nagamandala in 1997, directed by T.S Nagabharana with a big hit.This made Prakash Raj continue in Kannada films with a number of movies every year.

Prakash Raj raised into an actor as the most notable villain in Tamil and Telugu films and also the highest paid villain in Indian cinema.He was also a part of Mani Ratnam’s stage show, Netru, Indru, Naalai and acted in his direction film Iruvar.

Though Prakash Raj acted in supporting roles in many films but he was treated equal to that of lead role whether it is a villain character or father or any other role he plays.In some films the story demands Prakash Raj must be there in the film otherwise the film looks incomplete, that was the image he developed in film industry.

In Telugu film Okkadu, Prakash Raj played the role of factionist, who is in love with heroine, his role was equal to hero it gave a tough competition to hero in acting. After that Prakash Raj was flooded with offers in South Indian languages.

The versatile actor Prakash Raj co-starred with big heros and upcomming heros by giving tough competition in acting to them.

Prakash Raj ventured into production and produced films like Mozhi in Tamil directed by Radhamohan in lead role opposite Jyothika was a blockbuster,And is producing a movie named Poi, lie in English, which is directed by his mentor and veteran director K. Balachander, Prakash Raj has directed “Naanu Nanna Kanasu” in Kannada remake of his own production “Abhiyum Naanum”.

He married Pony Verma, a choreographer after giving divorce to his first wife actress, Lalita Kumari and has two daughters.

Prakash Raj has also won several awards including two national awards: He is considered to be one of the most natural actors in the film industry, and has a good reputation for his acting skills in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam films.
