Pooja Bhatt, born on February 24, 1972.She is an Indian film actress, producer and director. She is the daughter of Indian film director Mahesh Bhatt.

Bhatt was born to Mahesh Bhatt and Kiran Bhatt. She is of Gujarati Brahmin and Muslim descent on her father’s side. She has Scottish, Armenian and Burmese ancestry on her mother’s side. She is the step daughter of Soni Razdan, an actress. Her cousin Vikram Bhatt is a film screenwriter-director. Emraan Hashmi is another famous cousin who is a Bollywood actor. She acted in many films which were produced and directed by her father.

Bhatt made her acting debut at age 17, in 1989 with Daddy, a TV film directed by her father Mahesh Bhatt. In the film she portrayed a soul-searching teenage girl in an estranged relationship with her alcoholic father, played by actor Anupam Kher.

Pooja dreamt of reaching the stars some day. While still a child, Pooja Bhatt wanted to become an astronaut. By the age of 17, Mahesh Bhatt’s chubby daughter (and granddaughter of Nanabhai Bhatt of Prakash Pictures) had abandoned all those celestial dreams for earthly glamour.

Pooja Bhatt is one of those lucky actresses to have an industry-related-family to back her up and quite an understanding father, Mahesh Bhatt, the famous producer-director. Pooja likes her profession a lot and feels she’s a part of the Hindi Film Industry. Though she doesn’t take her career in the Bollywood so seriously, she’s had quite a few good films in her lot.

Her biggest hit and her big screen debut came with a musical hit, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991) opposite Aamir Khan which was a remake of the Oscar-winning Hollywood classic “It Happened One Night.” Pooja received the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for the film.

In fact, throughout her decade-long career, Pooja has sported an uncharacteristic forthrightness in laying bare her personal life. A family tradition, you’d think. So, the juiciest details of Ms. Bhatt’s love life involving filmmakers, actors, wannabes and nobodies, invariably made their way to magazine pages.

Her last film appearance was in Everybody Says I’m Fine! in 2001. She has since focused on producing and directing.

Pooja Bhatt Productions’ first offering was another ‘inspired’ story, that of a eunuch (Paresh Rawal) who adopts an abandoned child (Pooja herself). The box-office failure of her first effort perhaps prompted Pooja to finally wipe the pancake of her face and concentrate on being a full-time producer.

The ploy worked and ‘Dushman’, which starred Kajol in a double role and launched the careers of director Tanuja Chandra and bad man Ashutosh Rana became the ‘off-beat’ hit of 1998.
She made her directorial debut with Paap in 2004, starring John Abraham and Udita Goswami, since then she has made two more directorial ventures, Holiday (2006) and Dhokha (2007).

On August 24, 2003, she married her long-time boyfriend and a former popular VJ of Indian music channel, Channel V, Munish Makhija aka Udham Singh. He now owns a restaurant-bar in Goa.
