N.T. Rama Rao Profile

A legendary actor in Telugu as well as Indian film industry N.T. Rama Rao was a great actor, politician and among all these he was a inspiuring person to every human being in the world who gives respect to every sort of work.

Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao alias NTR and also known as N.T. Rama Rao born on 28 May 1923 in Nimmakuru, AP to Venkataramamma and Laxmaiah. But he was adopted by his uncle Ramaiah and his wife Chandramma .

Being from farmers family, NTR’s parents respected education did his basic education at his native place Nimmakuru. His father used to carry him on his shoulders to school. When his uncle Ramaiah adopted NTR, he was taken to Vijayawada concerning his further education where he joined in 6th class at Gandhi Municipal School at Vijayawada, completed his intermediate education at SRR and CVR College in Vijayawada and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Andhra-Christian College of Guntur.

While studying itself N.T. Rama Rao helped their parents by tying the milk cans on both sides of his cycle and distributing them to the hotels and dwellers of farer places from their house when they met with bad patch frantically, It was his first taste of the dignity of labour.  N.T. Rama Rao had worked in many fields to earn the daily bread for their family. He ran a small provision store and worked as a clerk.

In spite of all these things N.T. Rama Rao remained a good student in his school and later in college. While in Intermediate Viswanadha Satyanarayana who was the head of the Telugu dept asked NTR to play a female role where NTR reluctantly agreed to play the role but having his moustache! That incidence fetched him the nickname meesaala Nagamma.

Later N.T. Rama Rao passed in the Madras Service Commission Exam – out of 1,100 members only seven were selected and Rama Rao was one among them. Thus he settled down in a sub registrar’s job at Mangalagiri in 1947. Nevertheless, it became a brief period as he worked only for three weeks and refrained from the job since he got a prospect in films.

With this one instance N.T. Rama Rao became very passionate in acting and debuted with the film Mana Desam (1949) in which he played a police inspector character.From there N.T. Rama Rao had never looked back and he was filled with a string of movies.N.T. Rama Rao and Akkineni Nageswara Rao together acted for the first time in the filmPalletoori Pilla, directed by B. A. Subba Rao and the title role was played by Anjali Devi.

He mostly portrayed in Hindu Mythological characters in films like Arjuna (Nartanasala), Lord Krishna in Maya Bazaar, , Daana Veera Soora Karna, Lord Rama in (Lava Kusa), Bheeshma & Ravana (Bhookailasa), and Sri Krishnarjuna Yudham. or as hero and even acted in an ideal villain role. N.T. Rama Rao a legend in Telugu cinema though appeared in over 320 films, only 292 films are counted.N.T. Rama Rao was involved in the construction of a large number of movie theaters in rural locations and established financial system that funded the production and distribution of movies.

As he was a popular actor in AP , N.T. Rama Rao established Telugu Desam Party in 1982 and became the opposition party to congress, promoted the party across the state in his van dubbed “Chaitanya Ratham” With his son Hari Krishna and became Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.Now the TDP Party holds Thirty years of history as the party was undertaken by his son in law Chandrababu Naidu who became CM later.

N.T. Rama Rao married Basava Tarakam, the daughter of his maternal uncle. The couple had seven sons and four daughters. After his first wife death he remarried at the age of 70 to Lakshmi Parvathi.All his sons, grandsons and daughters were in good positions in politics and Telugu film industry.

Inspite of  acting N.T. Rama Rao entered into scriptwriter, direction and production fileds in Telugu films.

There is an award in name of N.T. Rama Rao as NTR National Award is a National level Award which is an annual award to recognize people for their lifetime achievements and contributions to the Indian film industry.
