Music Director Hamsalekha Profile

Hamsalekha is a leading music director in Kannada films. He has also directed music for several Tamil and Telugu films. Hamsalekha was born on 23 June as Govindaraju Gangaraju.

Being Music Director and lyricist in the Kannada film industry, Hamsalekha also wrote story, screenplays and dialogues for the movie. He has composed music for over 300 feature films and written lyrics for 300 odd feature films.

Hamsalekha is a stage actor and has his own theatre company Viveka Ranga. He has composed music for more than 100 films and written lyrics and dialogues for 100 films.

Hamsalekha s’debut film as musician was the 1981 film Rahuchandra. But his popularity soared only after his association with Actor-Director Ravichandran,

Premaloka, released in 1987 brought the pair together to unleash a musical extravaganza for kannada audience for over 12 years. Ravichandran and Hamsalekha joined together and gave several musical thrillers.

Hamsalekha’s style included traces of western music, Hindustani and carnatic classical music.

Hamsalekha is well versed in playing Keyboards, guitar, piano, harmonium, percussion and good in vocal singing.
He has introduced many talented singers and music directors to the industry. V. Manohar and Gurukiran are amongst them.

Hamsalekha literally ruled the Kannada music scenario of 90′s with his back to back hits. Even his lyrics are top notched, praised by critics as well as audience. He tried almost all geners of music including western pop, rock, hip hop to Indian classical, folk, ghazals, sufi and item songs too.

A ghazal composed by Hamsalekha in the movie Sparsha, Chandakinta Chanda sung by Pankaj Udhas was a huge hit which was praised by one and all.

Hamsalekha is married to Latha, who is an established playback singer.

Hamsalekha Desi Vidya Samsthe established in 2004 – 2005. The free educational institution started with SC / ST and downtrodden children for 8th, 9th and 10th std in English medium.
