M.S.Reddy Popularly known as ‘Mallemala’ is no more

Popular writer, director and producer M.S.Reddy popularly known as Mallemala died at his Film Nagar residence in Hyderabad on Sunday, following a prolonged illness. He was 86. He recently created a flutter by publishing his autobiography “Ide Na Katha”, in which he made some remarks that irked Tollywood’s biggies.

His writing skills were lauded by the legendary Viswanatha Satyanarayana. His acting as a honest Chief Minister in Ankusham even created a special space for him in the Telugu film industry. Sundara Rami Reddy was born on August 15, 1924 near Nellore. He was also known as ‘Sahaja Kavi’ for his lyrical simplicity in penning poems. One of the most respected personalities of the Telugu film industry, Reddy, during a career that spanned about 60 years, produced hit films like Ankusam, Talambralu, Ahuti, Baala Ramayanam, Ankusam, Ammoru, Agraham and the more recent Arundhati.

He started his career as a producer in 1966 with a dubbing film “Kannepilla”. He was a good artist as well as a photographer. He first started his photo studio in Chennai and also was interested in moving pictures. He was the first person to start a theatre in Chennai. Slowly he started producing movies in his own studio under his own banner.  He penned more than 5,000 lyrics and played a vital role in the shifting of the Telugu film industry from Chennai to Hyderabad. Top celebrities from the cinema field and political leaders thronged to pay last respects to the Sahaja Kavi at his Filmnagar residence.
