Veteran actor Krishnam Raju born as Uppalapati Venkata Krishnam Raju is a prominent Telugu film actor during 1970s and 1980s in Tollywood with more than 190 Telugu films in his career.
He is the uncle of actor Prabhas Krishnam Raju

Krishnam Raju was born in Mogalthuru, West Godavari district on 20th January, 1940, entered into the film industry after his graduation. His debut film was Chilaka Gorinka, directed by Pratyagatma and co-starring Krishnakumari won the prestigious Silver Nandi Award.  Earlier he starred in films as a villain, but later he developed as hero within a short period and films flooded in his way.

He was so multi-faceted and very exceptional with his acting talent that some roles were actually created for him. Thus how Krishnam Raju left his mark as a powerful actor in his 34-years film career.

Later, Krishnam Raju ventured into the film production which brought out many successful films under the banner Gopikrishna by producing a Hindi film Dharmadhikari starring veteran actor Dilip Kumar and was considered himself as a master producer.

Krishnam Raju is an all rounder star and noted as action king and ‘rebel star’ on the silver screen and a Pole Star in politics stated as real hero in reel life and in real life.

He was the President of Telugu Artists Association for 18 years, educating rural masses and making them aware of fiscal, academic and political policies; and actively engaged in Sangh Pariwar activities.

After retireing from films Krishnam Raju became active in politics. He joined Bharatiya Janata Party and was elected to Lok Sabha from Narasapur. He served as a minister of state for external affairs in the Third Vajpayee Ministry.

Krishnam Raju has won five Filmfare Awards, two Nandi Awards and a Filmfare Lifetime achievement Award. Even today Krishnam Raju continues with his acting career in suitable roles.
