From beauty contests, she moved into film – with her movie debut being Sultanat in 1986. Her first big hit was Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988, in which she starred with Aamir Khan. This Romeo and Juliet story of persecuted teenage lovers was an enormous success and launched Aamir’s and Juhi’s careers.

Being the former Femina Miss India, the cutie-pie of the Bollywood has had her share in the field that she’s been in for 15 years hitting the limelight every often with her smart performance in all the films she acted. She had a lot of hit films which are mostly musically melodious and films that did pretty well at the box office. “Darr” consolidated the actress’s star value.

Juhi acted opposite all the top heroes in Bollywood and she enjoys a very good rapport with all the industry people. She runs a production company “Dreamz Unlimited” in a partnership with the top class actor Sharukh Khan and director Aziz Mirza. The story of a sparky showdown between the actress and her first ever filmi friend, Aamir Khan, is quite famous.

The film Lootere gave her a glamourous makeover from the image of the ‘girl next door’. Then her comic talent was discovered with her association with David Dhawan as director for the hit Bol Radha Bol opposite Rishi Kapoor. Her successes include David Dhawan’s Deewana Mastana with Anil Kapoor and Govinda, Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi opposite Akshay Kumar, Duplicate with Shahrukh Khan and even a special comic appearance in Andaz Apna Apna as herself.

This bubbly Punjabi with a great smile and sense of humour won audiences with her warmth and down to earth attitude. Her comic timing was compared to Sridevi, who she cites as her idol. Though she made her debut much earlier in Sultanat which bombed, her big movie was Qayamat se Qayamat Tak with Aamir Khan in 1988 which went on to become a huge hit. She and Aamir became superstars overnight and were a much sought after pair. Their pairing brought super hit results again in Ishq in ’97.

Juhi and Aamir Khan reportedly had a major fight during the filming of Ishq which prompted her to swear she would never work with him again. They have not appeared together in any films since, though they made up when Juhi’s father passed away.

Juhi was very close to her mother, Mona, who passed away in Prague because of an accident during the shooting of Duplicate in 1997.

Juhi Chawla  married to an industrialist Jay Mehta in ’98 and has a six year old daughter Jhanvi with him along with a son. Post marriage, she left Bollywood for a while and returned to do art house cinema.
She also shares the ownership of the IPL club Kolkata Knight Riders with her husband Jay and best buddy Shah Rukh.

Today she is doing selected films, with interesting roles. Initially shy of serious ‘art film’ roles, and later openly regretting the loss of roles which went onto be award winning for other actresses, Juhi is now making a comeback in her career with a makeover. She was appreciated recently in Teen Deewarein and My Brother Nikhil and will now be seen opposite Shahrukh Khan in Farah Khan’s Happy New Year which is slated for an early 2007 release and opposite Anil Kapoor in Nikhil Advani’s Salaam E Ishq: A Tribute To Love which is slated for a November 24, 2006 release.
