Actress Sujatha Passes Away
Veteran actress Sujatha (10 December 1952 – 6 April 2011), who has performed in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi movies, passed away at her residence in Chennai today. She was 58. The actress was facing health problems for a while and had slowed down on her acting assignments lately.
Known for her beautiful portrayals, Sujatha had done a lot of her films with Kamal Haasan and Rajnikanth. Some of her popular films include Annaikali, Avargal, Vidhi and Andhaman Kadali.
Sujatha was introduced to the Tamil film industry by Director K. Balachander as the protagonist in “Aval Oru Thodarkathai.” Sujatha spent her childhood in Sri Lanka, where she actively participate in school plays, and later moved to Kerala when she was about 14. She acted in “Ernakulam Junction,” a Malayalam film, and soon drew the attention of Balachander.
She died of a cardiac arrest on 6 April 2011 after undergoing treatment for a heart ailment. She is survived by husband Jayakar, a businessman, and
children Sajith and Divya. The final rites are expected to be held on Thursday.
